When I was a kid and my family went camping in the Black Hills of SD, my dad made me a walking stick from a branch I'd found. Carved my name near the top and everything. Some years later, it broke, and Dad pinned and glued the break for me. I *still* have that thing and use it on hikes once in a while.
Good idea, shellacing it. I should do that to mine to help preserve it.
