(I took the header picture of a Common Loon resting on a pond in Utah on its way north in June of 2015. It was in transition from winter to summer plumage.)

My wife actually gave in and spent the first few months of my son's life riding in the back seat. Makes a fella feel a bit like a chauffeur.

When my son was 2 months old I traveled with him by plane. When he was about 7 months old we made the trip from Southern California to East Texas...he did well.
My advice take her in the car as often as you can. We( my husband writes Jimmy's manual ribbon) made the mistake with our fourth child not to travel much and it took him awhile to adjust.

Sounds like a good trip. The VLA is very much worth a detour. So is the Museum of Space History (aka the Space Hall of Fame) in Alamogordo, if you haven't been there.

Back in college (Santa Fe Community College) our astronomy class took a field trip to both of those places and the solar observatory at Sunspot. The trip convinced me that astrophysicists are the coolest nerds on earth!

Any pictures of the VLA?

It's great how portable newborns are, what with their nursing, and ability to sleep while being hauled around. Before you know it, your kid will try to control the car stereo, and fill your car with goldfish crackers.

Many thanks for your words. No I've not read Harris, but I can see some references to a "philosophy of archives," though I haven't seen an explanation of that.

Jenkinson is "an old friend;" at least his texts are for me! He had an eloquent way with what most people find to be dry subject matter.
Once in a while I must observe how theories such as those of archives and historiography are so much like those of the spiritual life.

So glad for your blog, too!
