Some typewritten thoughts on being white and liberal

I've decided to try to type some of my blog posts on a manual typewriter. By doing this I'm diminishing the quality of my posts but I want to get better at thinking things through before I write them. I usually polish something quite a bit before posting it on here and I wonder how many other bloggers do the same, or how many just type and post without editing. I'd like to be able to express myself at least passably in a first draft, thus the typewriter.

Besides, it's fun. Although my ineptitude with putting images on this blog is sure to show.

In relation to the typed post below, here's an interesting poem.

Well, I'm very glad to have you aboard our blogging caravan again! Great to hear from you. I look forward to reading more, and I plan on referencing your thoughts on property in an upcoming (probably not to soon) post.

I'm afraid I missed out on the days of "liberal" as anything but an epithet in the community at large. Hopefully this will change as we educate the public. And I like your thought about unrecognized prejudice. I've had a couple events in my life where I've come face to face with my own bigotry. Even though the bigotry was rather mild, I was still shocked and disappointed to see it in myself. The only thing I can do is to try to recognize it and retrain myself to change those foolish perceptions in the future.

(let's try this again)
Good to hear from you too!

It's good that racism has become unfashionable, but it also seems to fuel a lot of cognitive dissonance: "racism is bad, and I'm good, therefore I can't be racist". People can react angrily to any suggestion that they might have some prejudice still, and that denial ultimately makes it harder to overcome.

Just as a gentle reminder:
"right-wing Anglo xenophobes" now prefer to be called "paleocons". Just thought you'd like to know.

(What's that stuck in my cheek? Oh, it's my tongue!)

The type on your machine is pretty much identical to my Remington Noiseless. What model are you using? (If you've already answered this in another post, I'll find it. I've only just discovered your blog, and will likely keep reading.)

Heh heh. Thanks, Duffy Moon. This post and all other typecasts on this blog so far were written on a Royal Sabre. I have a Safari too with slightly smaller type.

I've since seen a picture of your typer on flickr (at least, I think that's yours). Very nice looking machine.
